Mom's Gator

Mom made friends with one of our gators while she was down. I think it's grown a bit. I took this photo in our backyard a few days ago

Lightning & Rainbows

Big Thunderstorm just came up. I got this photo of lightning off in the distance. Jan took the rainbow photo while I was in Ft. Lauderdale last week. Both were taken from our front porch I really enjoy the Florida sky - probably more than anywhere I've been.

It was a Good Year

Jan had the day off so we went down to New Smyrna Beach for lunch at a small place on the beach. On the way, we passed the Goodyear blimp - in town for the big race on Saturday. Those are Grumman Albatross''s in the background - the coolest airplanes ever made.

Ft. Lauderdale

My buddy Bill (who's an advanced sailing instructor) flew down to Ft. Lauderdale for a class he was taking out for a week. He let me know he was coming a day early to look at some sailboats and so I went down to meet him. I spent the night on the 44 ft Gib Sea monohull that he was going to take out for the class. Here's 2 photos from the Leopard 43 catamaran that we looked at. That's Bill and the Yacht broker on the boat. (This boat just sold for $460,000). The other photo is of the 44 foot Gib Sea that we stayed on.

Traveling to OBX

I bought a new trailer for hauling stuff for working around the house - and I figured hauling the motorcycle on it into the plan. It's a nice 'all aluminum' trailer - so it's very light. Here's a photo of the bike loaded up ready to go to the Winston-Salem for Mother's day and then onto the Outer Banks for the Spectacular.

The Pit

Here's a photo of my buddies Steve and Ben - the owners of the Pit - sitting at the bar while we had lunch.

Centenial of Flight Monument

Back in 2003, an organization that I used to be involved with - ICARUS INTERNATIONAL - was sponsoring a memorial monument to 100 years of flight. I was approached for a sizable donation and for some reason - I gave them the money. They had sold individual bricks to raise money. For the donation that I gave them - they put a 'headstone' instead of a brick. While I was there on this trip, I went back to the monument and noticed that it's the largest stone for individual on site. Here's a photo of the monument and of the 'headstone'. Note: notice I had a brick put down for my mom and dad as well.

The Hang Gliding Spectacular

Every year now for over 30 years - the hang gliding spectacular happens on the dune in Nags Head. It's a fun comp with fun tasks. The best I've ever done in it is 3rd place. This year I was 5th or so (I don't remember exactly). Here's a photo of Bill Vaughn on my glider.

Jan back at Dirty Dick's Crabhouse

Everyone at the restuarant that Jan used to manage was very happy to see her. They had a cake for her.

Bike Ride

While visiting the OBX, my buddy Bill and I took a day long bike ride from Duck, down to Ocracoke - across the ferry to Swan Quarter, then back to Duck. It was an all day ride that was a lot of fun. Here's a photo of Bill on the Ferry.

Hall of Fame Induction

During the hang gliding spectacular, one person is inducted yearly into the Rogallo Hang Gliding Hall of fame. This year was my year for that. Here's a photo of me being presented with the Rogallo Plaque and a photo with Jan, I, John Harris and Bruce Weaver with Mr. Rogallo in the center. Mr Rogallo is the inventor of the hang glider. He's 93 years old now.

Florida Fires

Back in May, we had quite a few wildfires in Fl. One of them was pretty close by. Here's a photo toward the SSW from our backyard. The fire was about 5 miles away.
